The online edition of today’s Brighton Argus reports that a poster from 1901 advertising a fund-raising event for Brighton & Hove Rangers was sold at auction for £750, more than twice the guide price.
Rangers were formed in 1900 and lasted just one season. Their achievements included reaching the final of both the Sussex Senior Cup and the Brighton Challenge Shield. In June 1901 they were accepted into Division Two of the Southern League along with West Hampstead but folded soon afterwards leading to the formation of Brighton & Hove United later that month. United changed their name to Albion and affiliated to the Sussex County FA in August 1901 under that name.
